With a few close friends recently having baby boys, it has us on the look-out for key pieces for little boys.  These Go Gently Baby Sport Trousers are a perfect piece for a little guy—lots of style and totally comfy.  This style of pant is a favorite for baby boys (though they size all the way up, we find them best for babies).  Paired with a wear-all-the-time two-tone cashmere hoodie from Barney’s and you have two solid pieces that will be in serious rotation until Spring.—CC

K-Way jackets have become a favorite in both our childrens’ closets for their major style appeal (bright colors! light weight!) We love them because they are easy to roll up and put in a backpack for those unpredictable weather days in any season.  They also are the perfect layer under a heavier coat during the colder months or on a sports field.  How happy were we to see them at more than 50% off on Gilt Kids?  This is a perfect investment jacket [without the investment].—CC

Tights are a serious business for fall and winter attire.  As much as we wish this extended summer would continue on the east coast, before we know it, tights will be a necessity.  We recommend buying these early in the season, because believe it or not, sizes sell out across the board.  We’ve scoured the web to share our favorites of this essential accessory.  From ribbed, to fair isle, to basic knit—these are the best of the bunch.—CC

Let’s not underestimate the power of a good basic.  A go-to that works with lots of different looks, always feels good and stands the test of time.  This simple playtime hoodie tee from Olive Juice is a year-round essential.  Wears well as styled in the photo with jeans or pants, slightly more dapper layered with a corduroy blazer or chunky sweater, or cool casual over a tee with shorts.  We especially love the rope tie detail and patch pockets at the waist to give it a little something special.  –CC

These coats are loaded with whimsy and imagination, with endless opportunities to make cold-weather dressing lots of fun.  Designed by a frustrated mom who could not get her child to wear their hood…this animal coat became a favorite with her own child, and soon a favorite among many was born.  From robot coats, to kitty capelets, Little Goodall has a character that will appeal to even the wildest child.  –CC

A personal favorite of mine when my girls were little…the perfect scarf by Oeuf that wraps around baby’s neck and stays in place with the simple tuck of one end through a loop hole in the other.  Not a lot of material or fuss–just a simple neck wrap to keep baby cozy as temperatures get cooler.  Style with a printed top, layer with a chunky knit sweater, or pair with a favorite coat.  Voila!  Form meets function again.  xx, Christin

Moto is pretty much always in season in my book… I have last year’s version of these moto jeans and wear them to pieces.  Super flattering? check.  I also happen to think a little moto goes a long way when dressing my four-year-old, which is why this almost-matching version from the Gap is pitch perfect.  Style them with a liberty top, pintuck white blouse or cardigan sweater and she’s ready to roll. Every season we love to have one or two pieces that are total outfit changers, but versatile enough to reach for again and again.  Military is a major trend for little ones this season, and this Stella McCartney military-inspired jacket is just the ticket for an outfit-changing piece.  Though considered unisex, we’ve styled it for the girls as we see this investment jacket having more versatility in a girl’s wardrobe (there is a pink version available on Nordstrom.com).  Equally adorable on boy or girl, this wool staple is worthy of a serious salute.—CC

For many nursery school-age children there are guidelines at school for children to wear closed-toed shoes.  This is not so much a problem for the winter, when closed-toed shoes are a necessity—but for the transitional seasons when sandals are a go-to, its more challenging to come up with just the right footwear.  For boys, sneakers generally are an easy sell…but for girls it can be a bit tougher crowd.  We’ve come up with some fall-appropriate (and girl-approved) options that are ready to hit the playground.
