Flower motifs are a perennial favorite for Spring, and the florals for this spring bring new meaning to the term “flower power.” The bold and busy prints are infused with the bright colors and take new form with abstract to micro florals, and even tropically-inspired. Flowers in one version or another made their way onto so many of the runways from Alexander Wang to Altuzarra. Children’s Spring ‘12 florals will be found on leggings, shoes, dresses and just about everything in between.
Soothing shades of color and prints transcend us to life under the sea. This trend is full of plenty of pastel colors, seascape prints and lots of blues and it has us craving a week at the beach. Full and floaty silhouettes also fall under this trend, and our favorites are compliments of the European childrenswear brands. Blue works equally well for both boys and girls in hues of aqua, cobalt and turquoise. Sunscreen and beach read required.
Its no surprise after the darker shades of Winter that fashion is ready for a change of color with bright bold colors. What’s evident about this Spring’s colors is that brighter is better (even neon!), and the colors can all be worn together. Yes, color blocking is back and will be seen through the design of pieces themselves but also in how its styled—bright denim paired with an even brighter top, and incorporated through accessories. Don’t be afraid to mix-and-match with this trend.
We can thank Prada for inspiring what is probably our favorite trend of the season. Inspired by the movie “Grease” we’ve fall for the full skirts, varsity jackets and cropped pants. Adorable on boys and girls, the silhouettes are youthful and don’t at all feel “themed.” What little girl doesn’t want a skirt with twirl appeal and isn’t Danny Zuco just the standard of cool for boys? This trend definitely has us craving those “Summer Nights.”
Tangerine is color of the season and its bright and festive! Bursts of orange ruled on the runways and works well work with the other trends. We particularly love the color paired with all the shades of blue for spring. Whether as a stripe or a separate tangerine is sure to make its way into (yours) and your child’s closet for spring.
Polka dots grow up this season working their way onto the runways as one of the biggest trends. As is fitting, this beloved print is a favorite in the childrenswear world and this season’s are anything but Minnie Mouse. Lucky for your little one, polka dots are making their way onto shoes, skirts, bows and just about anything else. From big scale dots to micro and in the bright and pastel colors of the season, we are seeing spots (and lots of them).
